Cindy Crites is a versatile mixed-media artist based in Western Maryland, whose works encompass oil, acrylic, pencil, and clay. Her deep connection to nature, evident in her love for outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, boating, and kayaking, serves as a profound inspiration for her creations. Crites holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Recreation Leadership and Visual Communications, which provide a unique foundation for her artistic expression. Her childhood fascination with colors in nature, nurtured by an elementary school teacher who introduced her to sketching and African-American heritage pieces, set the stage for her artistic journey, helping her overcome childhood challenges through her boundless imagination.

As a member of the Allegany Arts Council, Crites has showcased her artwork at various venues, including the Saville Gallery, Roper Gallery, and Rocky Gap Resort, garnering recognition from notable figures such as the Mayor of Cumberland, Maryland. Her commitment to community enrichment is evident through her establishment of a school of art for children from her home. Crites's art extends beyond mere visual appeal; her series of paintings commemorating her recently deceased brother aims to inspire viewers to "see the soul in color," a message underscored by her volunteer work at the Salvation Army. Her creative process involves finding solace and inspiration in the tranquility of the forest, emphasizing the importance of silence in perceiving the subtle beauty of nature.

"Unless we Are quiet, we do not hear the leaf fall."
